90pc of CHT peace deal to be implemented during present government’s tenure: Obaidul

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said implementation of 85 to 90 percent of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) peace accord would be ensured during the tenure of the present government.
The government has given special emphasis on the development of the hill regions and brought the remote areas of hill districts under communication networks, he said speaking at a public rally at remote Headmanpara of Thanchi upazila in the district.
The government will develop a tourist zone involving Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachhari districts, the minister said and sought cooperation of all in this regard.
State Minister for CHT Affairs Bir Bahadur, MP, Project Director Major General Abdul Qadir, Additional Secretary of Communications Ministry Farid Ahmed, Bandarban Army Regional Commander Brigadier General Nakib Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam, Superintendent of Police Debdas Bhattacharya and Thanchi upazila Chairman Kahoching Marma were present at the rally, among others.
Earlier, the minister visited some parts of newly constructed roads in the area.
Obaidul Quader said the construction of 27 kilometer roads would be completed by December this year under Thanchi- Alikadam road communication network.
Thousands of men and women of different indigenous groups joined the rally.
