`900 volunteers to help police for traffic management`

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said some 900 volunteers would help police for managing traffic during the Eid-ul-Fitr.”900 volunteers would help police at 10 traffic prone points for ensuring smooth traffic management during the upcoming Eid,” he told newsmen while visiting Gabtoli Bus Terminal to oversee mobile court operation.Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has been conducting mobile court to ensure bus fare for long distance, which was fixed after reducing diesel price. The minister said the volunteers would provide cooperation five days before Eid for smooth journey of the homebound passengers during the Eid period.He said volunteers would join the traffic management campaign in three shifts, while 300 would work at each shift. Scout, BNCC, university or college going local students and social workers would help police for traffic management. Replying to a question, Quader said that volunteers would also work at Ashulia, Bipile, ZiraboBazar, Fantasi Kingdom, Chandra, Konabari, Kaliakoir, Nabinagar, Kanchpur, Dhulta, Meghna along with important points. Besides, community police will work at Gazipur intersection, Tongi, Bhogra and other points to ensure smooth traffic movement during the Eid period, he added. The government would also construct temporary latrines adjacent to highways and traffic prone areas as well as ferry ghat so that women and children can use latrines on urgent basis during the Eid time, the minister said. Transport owners and union representatives and BRTA senior officials were present during the visit.
