9 killed in separate road crashes

At least nine persons were killed and several others injured in separate road crashes across the country on Sunday.
In Gazipur, five people were killed in a head-on collision between a battery-operated auto-rickshaw and a passenger bus at Makishbathan area in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur.
The incident occurred around 11pm on Saturday night (July 30).
The deceased were identified as Nazrul Islam, 32, an auto-rickshaw driver from Sheikh Bari village of Tangail’s Bhuapur, Mehedi Hasan Bablu, 45, of Angarpara village of Sadar police station of Barguna district, Atiqul Islam, 43, of Hijaltali village of Kaliakair in Gazipur, Saidul Islam Rubel, 27, of Latifpur village of the same upazila and Shaheen Uddin, 28, of Dahar village of Magura in Jashore.
Local sources said that a passenger bus of Itihash Paribahan collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Makishbathan area of the upazila, leaving two people including auto-rickshaw driver dead on the spot and three others injured.
The injured were admitted to different hospitals but died while undergoing treatment.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kaliakair Police Station Rahat Akand said the bus was seized, but its driver managed to flee the scene. A case will be filed in this connection, he added.
In Dhaka, two persons including a student were killed, while five others injured in a bus-Laguna collision at Mirpur Embankment in the capital on Sunday noon (July 31).
The deceased was identified as Jubair student of Mirpur Commerce College
and Rabiul Islam Rubel. Of the injured, identity not found yet.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shah Ali Police Station of Mirpur Division Aminul Islam confirmed the matter to the media saying that injured were sent to different hospitals for better treatment.
The bus and Laguna were seized immediately after the incident, he added.
In Magura, an unidentified pedestrian died in a road accident in Maghir Dhal area of Magura Sadar Upazila. The accident took place on the Dhaka-Khulna highway on Sunday (July 31) afternoon.
Magura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Namis Uddin confirmed the matter to the media and said that a person was crossing the road after buying biscuits from a roadside shop in the afternoon. At that time a transport hit him. He fell down and suffered severe head injuries. He was rescued and taken to Magura Sadar Hospital, where duty doctor declared him dead.
In Jhenaidah, an old man named Abdul Latif (70) was killed and two people including the motorcyclist Nazmul Hasan were injured after being hit by a motorcycle in Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila on Sunday afternoon. The accident happened Porahati area of Jhenaidah-Magura highway. The injured were rescued and admitted to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital.
At Jhenaidah, an old man named Abdul Latif (70) was killed after being hit by a motorcycle in Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila. Two people including the motorcyclist Nazmul Hasan were injured. The accident happened in Porahati area of Jhenaidah-Magura highway on Sunday afternoon.
The injured were rescued and admitted to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital.
