9 JU teachers resigned over BCL threat

The Provost and eight House Tutors of Kamaludin Hall of Jahangirnagar University resigned their respective posts on Tuesday, as the activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League of the hall unit threatened and misbehaved with them centering appointment of a chef.
The teachers submitted their resignation letters to Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam at 1pm and lodged many complaints against the BCL activists.
Professor Nojibur Rahman told The New Nation on Tuesday, “We are teachers. We cannot tolerate that students will manhandle us. That is why we have already submitted our resignation.”
However, JU Pro-VC Professor Abul Hossain requested the teachers to withdraw their resignation letters in the interest of general students.”
The teachers are Provost Professor Nojibur Rahman, Warden AHM Sadat and Khorshed Alam, Residential Teachers Fakrul Islam, Mizanur Rahman, Assistant Residential Teachers Tajuddin Sikder, Mozammal Hossain, Kazi Rasel Uddin and Subrato Bonik.
“A section of the activists of the BCL consecutively threaten us and give pressure to appoint their loyal person as chief chef of the dorms, even they obstruct us to do our duties. We are very insecure”, say the teachers in the resignation letter.
Earlier on Monday night, the BCL leaders and activists brought out a procession demanding the resignation of hall Provost and the House Tutors. They also submitted a memorandum to the university VC on Tuesday.
