9 fishermen held with 10 lakh fish fries in Mongla

As many as nine fishermen were arrested along with 10 lakh catch banned fish fries and a trawler by a contingent of the coastguards of the Western Zone deployed Mongla from the river Pashur near at Mongla Port area in Bagerhat district on Thursday morning, according to report received here.
The arrested fishermen are Mohammad Hossain (25), Robiul Islam (35), Masud Hossain (32), Abu Zafar (27), Habib Hossain (42), Al-Amin (27), Kohinur (35), Shahinur Rahman (25) and Rezaul (32). They all hail from Koira Upazila in Bagerhat district. Later, with the help of the Fishery department they were brought before a Mobile Court conducted by Kamalesh Majumdar, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Officer of Mongla fined them (fishermen) Tk.3 thousand each on the charge mentioned above.
At the time of delivering the judgment the UNO told, Government imposed ban on the catching of Paissa fish fries from the river in the country for all through the year. But in spite of that a section of dishonest fishermen are engaged in catching the fries violating the Govt. order. So, the law enforcing authorities are always ready to take action against those offenders. At that time Upazila Fishery Officer Mohammad Zahidul Islam, Office Assistant Md Saiful Islam and members of the contingent of the coastguards were present there.
