Rangamati municipality authorities distributed some eight metric tonnes of rice to around 4,000 landslide-affected labourers of 41 labour unions on Friday.
Dipankar Talukdar, former Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister, distributed 20 kg rice to every labourer at the conference room of Rangamati Municipality in the afternoon.
At least 154 people, including army personnel and children, were killed in landslides triggered by heavy rains in Bandarban, Chittagong, Rangamati and Cox’s Bazar districts in June.
Of them, 118 were killed in Rangamati alone. Several hundred houses were damaged and road communication was disrupted in the district after the fatal landslide.
