Zinc Rice Field Day held at Shibalaya: ‘89 lakh children to be freed from Zinc rice scarcity in BD’

Field Day and high-zinc enriched rice species BRRI Rice-62 and BRRI Rice-64 cutting has been organised by CCDB with the cooperation of Harvest-Plus Bangladesh in the field of Narayan Das of the village Shashinara on Sunday.
Md Alimuzzaman Mia, DD , Manikganj Agriculture Extension Department was present as Chief Guest . Upazilla Agriculture Officer Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Country Representative Harvest-Plus Atik Alam, Debasish Kumar Dey, CCDB Area Manager were present as special guests. CCDB Central Office Seed Manager Shamiran Biswas facilitated the programme .
The total management was under the supervision of Shibalaya Farmer’s Group Enterprise. There are also present more than three hundred male and female farmers, students and teachers from different institutions, respected persons of the area and the representatives from different organisations.
 The guests became very pleased and encouraged to observe the production of Zinc rice and its qualities.
Under this Programme during the current 2014-15 Boro season in Shibalaya Upazilla BRRI rice-64 Zinc rice will be given to one hundred male and female farmers. Those one hundred farmers implemented one hundred `High Zinc enriched rice’ demonstration plot. The guests commented that `The people of our country, particularly the mother and child will be free from Zinc scarcity and their food security will be secured.’
The project implementation organizations expect that the 89 lakh children will be free from the Zinc rice scarcity when this project will be implemented in Bangladesh. In Bangladesh 44% child under five years suffering from different complexity including want of talent, physical growth etc.
 Mother and child were in a vulnerable condition in want of Zinc. Regular eating of Zinc rice removes the scarcity of Zinc and will ensure qualitative food security.
