Staff Reporter, Kishoreganj :
In the last 20 months, at least 88 people have been killed when a train derailed at Bhairab Bazar station in Kishoreganj.
Most of them did not match their identities. On the Tongi-Bhairab Bazar 60 km and Bhairab-Bajitpur 19 km railway line, 55 people were killed in 2020 and 32 by August 19, 2021. Most of the dead are men.
According to the railway authorities, these unnatural deaths occurred while traveling on the roof of the train, getting off the train at the non-stop railway station and crossing the railway line.
According to Government Railway Police (GRP) in Bhairab, most of the victims were unidentified as the train cut them off and buried their bodies in the graveyard on their own initiative. However, some bodies have been identified. When the identity is found, the body is handed over to the family.
According to the police, the accidents were due to unsafe train travel, moving on and off the train, crossing the railway line carelessly, traveling at the junction of two bogies of the train and hanging at the door.
Although the railway authorities banned travel on the roof of the train, due to the scarcity of bogies, passengers traveled on the roof. In addition, some teenagers nowadays wear earphones while walking on the railway line.
At this time many people are getting cut in the train without hearing the sound of the moving train.
Bhairab GRP Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ferdous Ahmed Biswas said, the accident took place due to negligence of passengers and common people during the train journey. Most of the people who died after being cut in the train do not match their identities.
Many times the police also suffer with these bodies. In most of such cases, unnatural death cases are lodges, added OC, Bhairab GRP.
