Staff Reporter :The results of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations 2016 were published on Wednesday with 88.29 percent success rate. The percentage of success increased 1.25 percent than the last year. A total of 14,52,605 students out of 16,45,201 passed in SSC and equivalent examinations under 10 education boards. The number of highest Grade Point Average (GPA-5) decreased with 1,09,761 students securing the GPA-5 this year compared with 1,11,901 in 2015.Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid disclosed the result in a press conference held at his ministry on Wednesday.In the morning, the Education Minister formally handed over a copy of this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Gano Bhaban in presence of chairmen of all the boards. Nurul Islam Nahid said, “We have found some positive signs in different indicators of education in this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations results. These good results have been attributed to various effective initiatives of the Education Ministry.”He expressed his satisfaction at the excellent results and hoped this successes would continue in future. “Examinees of science groups did better with 95.89 percent success rate. The number of participant students in science group increased as we gave special attention to them,” the Minister said. The Minister also said that his ministry would find out reasons behind zero success rates of 53 institutions.The number of the institutions with cent percent pass rate decreased to 4,734 from last year’s 5,095 while that of institutions with zero success rate rose to 53 from 47 of last year.In eight general education boards, 88.70 percent students were successful, in Madrasa Education Board 88.22 percent passed and in Technical Education Board 83.11 passed.As many as 353 students from eight foreign centres passed with 89.37 percent pass rate.A total of 395 students from the eight overseas centres appeared in the examinations. Of the successful students, as many as 112 got GPA-5.Rajshahi Education Board has secured the top position among eight general education boards with 95.70 percent pass rate in the SSC examinations this year.The pass rate of Dhaka Board is 88.67 percent, while it is 84 percent in Comilla, 79.41 percent in Barisal, 91.85 percent in Jessore Board, 89.59 percent in Dinajpur, 90.44 percent in Chittagong Board and 84.77 percent in Sylhet Board.The female students have marked slight edge over their male counterparts in terms of pass rate.A total of 7,10,808 female students passed the examinations with 88.39 percent success rate this year while the number of successful male students is 7,41,797 with 88.20 percent pass rate.This year, a total of 16, 51,523 students took part in the examinations in 3,143 centres.Beginning on February 1, the written examinations ended on March 8 while the practical tests were held from March 9 to March 14.
