86 people arrested in Rangpur

A total of 86 people, including 14 Jamaat-Shibir activists and two BNP men, were arrested in separate overnight raids conducted at different places in the district during the past 24 hours ending this morning, police sources said.
Of them, the Jamaat-Shibir and BNP men were arrested in connections with various cases filed against them and for their alleged involvements with conducting subversive activities, vandalism and arson and other crimes in recent times in the district.
Besides, police arrested 70 others in connections with different cases filed against them and for their suspicious movements from all eight upazilas and Rangpur city during the period.
Of them, Pirganj Thana Police arrested drug traders Sobuz Mian with 52 litres of wine and Rabindranath with 97 bottles of contraband phensidyl and Kotwali police arrested Monwarul with three bottles wine from different areas last night.
After primary interrogation, the arrested were produced before the concerned Rangpur courts from where they were sent to the jail hajat this afternoon, the sources added.
