The country has now 85,77,556.55 hectares of cultivable land and 74,48,100.03 hectares under irrigation system.
“A total 74,48,100.03 hectares of land out of 85,77,556.55 hectares of cultivable land are under irrigation system,” Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhruy told the Jatiya Sangsad, while replying to a starred question from treasury bench member Didarul Alam of Chattogram-4 on Tuesday.
She said the government has undertaken various plans to bring cultivable lands out of irrigation through setting up rubber dams at different places, constructing structure for preserving surface water, irrigation equipment accessible.
The minister informed the House that some 87 percent of cultivable lands are under irrigation and 13 percent out of irrigation process.
