The government would modernize 8,500 post offices as e-centres across the country by June, 2017 to disseminate information and communication technology services to the rural people.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said this on Sunday on behalf of State Minister of the Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim while replying to question from a treasury bench member Jebunnesa Afroz in the Jatiya Sangsad.
The government has undertaken different projects to modernize the post offices through introducing express mail service (EMS), online inquiry system for International letters and global monitoring system, he said. He said, apart from renovating 104 old post office buildings, 200 others information technology based rural post offices have been constructed.
