Staff Reporter :At least of 368 women in the country were tortured in different ways only in the month of July. Of them, 83 were raped or gang raped, according to a Bangladesh Mahila Parishad statement on Tuesday. It said the number of gang-raped victims was 15 while nine of them were brutally killed by the rapists after being raped during the period. Apart from this, ‘rape attempts’ were made against 19 women, while ten women were ‘violated’ and one woman fell victim of ‘sexual harassment’.The Legal Aid sub-council of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad prepared the monthly report based on news items published in 14 national newspapers.The report said that 62 women and children were killed in the month of July. Of them, 19 were killed for dowry, 41 tortured while four were acid burnt.There were also six incidents of abductions during the month. Besides, four women and children were victims of human trafficking while two were sold out in the brothel, it added.Four housemaids were severely tortured and two of them succumbed to the injuries. At the same time, 24 women were irritated. Of them, one committed suicide. Not only that, 26 other women also committed suicide due to severe torture. Seven women became victims of ‘fatawa’ and nine died mysteriously. There were three victims of child marriage and two tortured by police. Besides, another 30 women were physically tortured by others during the aforesaid period.
