82 AL leaders, activists accused of looting properties in Barisal

Some 82 Awami League leaders and activists have been made accused in two counter cases on Thursday for looting and damaging properties at Mahilara under Gournadi upazila on Barisal-Dhaka highway of Barisal district.
During that hour-long incidents on Tuesday photos of the Bangabandhu, prime minister, transports and bus-counters were damaged, cocktail blasted and 8 persons including 3 cops were injured.
Pronoy Kanti Adhikari, headmaster of Mahilara A N School, said local school and college students protesting damaging and dishonoring the portrait of Bangabandhu and prime minister, held a protest rally covering central Shahid Minar of Mahilara with black cloths Thursday morning. However police snatched the black cloths.
Sajjad Hossain, Gournadi police station officer in charge, said Soikat Guha Piklu, upazila Jubo League joint convener and Mahilara union parishad chairman, as complainant lodged a case against 79 accuses including 12 by-name.
The by-name accused of this case were Harisur Rahman Haris, Gournadi municipal mayor and upazila AL secretary, Akbar Hossain Faruk, his elder brother and upazila AL leader, Golam Hafiz Mridha, Nalchira UP chairman, Khokan Mallik, Abu Sayed Nantu, upazila JL joint conveners, Alamin Haoladar, Alamin Sardar, JL activists, Santu Bhuiya, secretary Gournadi College BCL, Ratul, Manna, Matin, BCL activists, Mosharraf Hossain, municipal employee.
They were accused for looting and ransacking offices of Mahilara union parishad, baazar, college, bus counters and business shops on Tuesday noon.
Another case was lodged by Akbor Hossain Faruk, AL leader and brother of Harisur Rahman Haris, Gournadi municipal mayor and upazila AL secretary.
In this case three were accused by-names as Soikat Guha Piklu, upazila Jubo League joint convener and Mahilara union parishad chairman, Hasan Sardar, UP digital center in charge, Nazmul Sardar, fish trader and associate of Piklu were accused for demanding beating, Tk 20 lakhs as toll and damaging motorcycle of the complainant, the OC said.
