Around 81 Puja mandaps in Sadar upazila of the district got rice worth about Tk 8, 42,400 as government grant.
State Minister for Water Resources Lt. Col.(Retd.) Muhammad Nazrul Islam (Bir Protik) at a function held at Narsingdi Sadar Upazila Parishad hall room distributed the rice among the Puja mandaps on Monday as each mandap receive rice of Tk 10,400.
Narsingdi Sadar upazila parishad organised the function with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jamirul Hassan in the chair.
The function was addressed, among others, by President of district puja udjapan parishad Prof Surja Kanto Das, its Secretary Dipak Saha, Persident of sader upazila puja udjapan committee Naryan Shaha and President of town puja udjapan parishad Uttam Modak and its Secretary Binoy Saha.
The state minister also distributed Taka 5000 and 40 pieces of shari to the Puja mandaps from his own fund.
While addressing at the function, he said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ensured the religious rights of all faiths.
He called upon all to extend their cooperation for peaceful celebration of Durga Puja.
He also asked the law enforcers to take all necessary measures for ensuring law and order during the Puja.
Earlier the state minister distributed 135 bundle CI sheet and cash TK 40 5000 among the 64 destitute people on Sadar upazila parished premises.
