More than eighty trained youths got private sector jobs through a daylong job fair held in Damkura area under Paba Upazila of the district yesterday.
Center for Mass Education in Science (CMES), a non-government development organization, hosted the fair on its Damkura unit office premises in order to establish a link between the trained youths and private entrepreneurs.
Earlier, the CMES imparted six-months training to the youths on diversified trades and vocations like garments, carpentry, welding, electric, electronics, poultry, computer and honey hunting to make them competent for the productive field.
A discussion was held at the venue with unit organizer KM Asaduzzaman in the chair. Some 120 graduates and 102 entrepreneurs attended the programme.
Upazila Youth Development Officer Abu Sayeed Reza, Women Affairs Officer Hosney Laila, Principal of Damkura Hat College Abul Hashem, CMES Programme Coordinator Jakiya Akhter spoke on the occasion.
Regional Technical Officer Shamsul Haque told that CMES intends to create self-employment scopes for the dropout youths through providing them with technical education.
More expansion and promotion of technical and vocational education and training among the youths both male and female is critically important for transforming them into skilled human resources.
He viewed expanded technical education could be effective means of building competent and skilled human resources and its role is very vital for substantial and sustainable growth of national economy.
Role of skilled people is also very important for earning more foreign remittance which is significant for country’s development.
Youth Development Officer Syeed Reja said need-based vocational training for the youths coming from poor families is very important and their post-training employment is also vital for eradicating their unemployment problem.
