The Ministry of Home Affairs has given clearance to eight new private television channels for telecasting.
The Ministry gave the clearance on Wednesday, sources said.
The owners of the channels have been asked to begin full-telecast shortly.
In November 2013, the Ministry of Information approved 13 TV channels to launch. But those could not start operation in absence of the Home Ministry’s clearance. After a year, the Ministry (Home Ministry) gave clearance to eight channels out of 13.
The 13 channels are: Green TV of the Green Multimedia Limited, News 24 of the East West Media Group, Titas TV of the Millennium Media Limited, Dhaka Bangla TV of the Dhaka Bangla and Communication Ltd, Millennium TV of the Millennium Multi-Media Private Ltd, New Vision TV of the News and Image Ltd, Renaissance TV of the Barindra Media Ltd, Rangdhanu TV of the Rangdhanu Media Ltd, Cambrian TV of the BSB Foundation, Jadu Mia TV of the Jadu Media Ltd, ,Amar Gaan TV of the Media Bangladesh Ltd, Channel 21 of the Broadcast World Bangladesh Ltd and ATV of the ATV Ltd.
But it is not still clear which eight channels got clearance. It may be noted that 18 new television channels started telecasting during the 1st term of the Awami League led grand alliance government.
