8 more die, Covid-19 cases cross 24,500 in Rangpur Division

Eight more Covid-19 patients died while the number of Covid-19 cases crossed the 24,500 mark on Saturday in Rangpur division amid a hastily rising positivity rate and declining recovery rate in recent weeks .
Health officials said the eight deaths were reported from Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts raising the number of casualties to 495 in the division.
“Some 111 patients died from May 26 to June 26, the highest number of casualties in a month since the outbreak of the pandemic,” Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.
The district-wise break up of the 495 fatalities stands at 110 in Rangpur, 178 in Dinajpur, 74 in Thakurgaon, 38 in Nilphamari, 27 in Kurigram, 22 in Panchagarh, 23 in Gaibandha and 23 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.
“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.02 percent in the division,” Dr Siddiqui said.
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases speedily climbed to 24,520 as 447 more patients were reported after testing 1,207 samples at the positivity rate of 37.03 percent positivity rate on Saturday in the division.
Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 27.01 percent on Friday, 41.74 percent on Thursday, 37.85 percent on Wednesday, 35.95 percent on Tuesday, 34.58 on Monday and 38.94 percent on Sunday last in the division.
“The district-wise break up of total 24,520 patients stands at 5,750 in Rangpur, 984 in Panchagarh, 1,775 in Nilphamari, 1,366 in Lalmonirhat, 1,660 in Kurigram, 2,969 in Thakurgaon, 8,010 in Dinajpur and 2,006 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
As on Saturday, the district-wise daily positivity rates stood at 50 percent in Rangpur, 38 percent in Panchagarh, 43 percent in Nilphamari, 21 percent in Lalmonirhat, 30 percent in Kurigram, 45 percent in Thakurgaon, 37 percent in Dinajpur and 30 percent in Gaibandha.
Since the beginning, a total of 1,50,978 collected samples were tested till Saturday, and of them, 24,520 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 16.24 percent.  
Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 19,392 with recovery of 96 more patients on Saturday in the division at the average recovery rate of 79.09 percent.
“The average recovery rate of Covid-19 infected patients was 97.55 percent three and a half months ago on March 9 last in the division where the same dropped by 18.46 percent to 79.09 percent on Saturday,” Dr Islam said.
“The 19,392 recovered patients include 4,973 of Rangpur, 827 of Panchagarh, 1,619 of Nilphamari, 1,130 of Lalmonirhat, 1,258 of Kurigram, 1,722 of Thakurgaon, 6,079 of Dinajpur and 1,784 of Gaibandha districts in the division,” he said.
