Eight persons identified as Sajedul Islam Sumon, Tariqul Islam Jhantu, Abdul Quader Bhuiyan Masum, Mazharul Islam Russel, Md. Asaduzzaman, Md. Al Amin, A M Adnan Chowdhury and Zahedul Karim Tanvir, all of them are residents of Dhaka city, have gone missing from December 4, 2013.
Their family members and human rights workers claimed that Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) picked up them from the capital’s different areas on the same night but none of them has returned till date.
Hazera Khatun, mother of missing Sajedul Islam Sumon, said this in a written statement to the reporters in the VIP Lounge of the National Press Club on Saturday. Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Convener of Nagorik Oikkya, and representatives of seven other missing persons were present.
Hazera alleged that RAB members picked up them, including her son Sumon, on December 4, 2013 but never the elite force (RAB) produced any logical ground of his arrest. No police station agreed to register any case or general diary (GD) in this connection. After repeated requests Gulshan, Tejgaon Industrial and Mugda Police Stations conditionally registered the GD for three victims. The family members mentioned in their statements that Masum, Rana and Tanvir did not come back after they had gone out of their residence at day time.
She claimed that she went to the State Minister for Home Affairs, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police (IGP), and Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (HRC) for getting back her missing child. But all are in vain. Now we appeal to the RAB to produce them alive before the Eid-ul-Fitr.
The Nagorik Oikkya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Senior Lawyer Advocate Shahdeen Malik, Dr Zafar Ullah Chowdhury and some members of the missing persons were present, among others.
