Thirty-eight Bangladeshi boys and girls returned home from India through the Benapole check post on Monday evening after languishing in jail there for two years.
Indian Petrapole immigration police handed over the Bangladesh returnees to Benapole immigration police around 7:00pm, said Ahsan Habib, officer-in-charge of Benapole immigration.
The 38 Bangladeshis include 28 boys and 10 girls and their ages are between 10- 15 years, our correspondent reported, quoting the police official.
OC Ahsan Habib said Indian police arrested them from different parts of the country after traffickers sent them to India three years back promising profitable jobs.
Later, an Indian court sentenced them to jail for two years for intrusion, said the OC.
After completing their jail terms, some Indian NGOs took the Bangladeshis to shelters, said the police official.
Eventually, the Bangladeshis were sent home through special travel permits following the intervention of the home ministries of both the countries, the OC added.
