8 killed in road accidents

At least eight persons were killed and 25 others injured in separate road accidents in Gaibandha and Tangail districts on Sunday.
The injured have been sent to different clinics and hospitals for treatment.
In Gaibandha, six persons including a child were killed and 15 others injured when a bus fell into a roadside ditch after it collided head-on with a truck on Dhaka-Rangpur Highway at Gobindaganj upazila. The accident took place in Balua area during the small hours of night at 3am when a Nilphamari-bound bus of Shakil Paribahan from Dhaka collided with a truck.
Among dead, three of the deceased were identified as Shapla Begum, 30, and her six-year-old child Abdul Alim and Abdul Wahab Mandal, 45.
The injured were rushed to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex where one of them succumbed to injuries.
In Tangail, a goods laden truck rammed another truck parked on the Gorai-Sakhipur Road at Mirzapur, leaving two men dead and eight other injured early Sunday.
The deceased were identified as truck driver Tara Mia, 45, from Manikganj, and banana trader Delwar Hossain, 40, from Dhamrai Thana in Dhaka.
Mirzapur Police Officer-in-Charge Md Main Uddin said four banana traders riding on the truck were heading towards Kutubpur of Sakhipur upazila in Tangail from Bathuli in order to buy bananas.
On the way to Pekua, they got down from the truck along with its driver.
Another truck, in the meantime, hit the stationary truck from behind, leaving Tara Mia and Delwar Hossain dead on the spot, he said.
Four persons, including banana trader Golam Rabbani, 42, from Saturia also got injured, but two other traders escaped the accident somehow.
The injured was admitted to Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar, the police official added.
