8 killed as BRTC bus hits two auto-rickshaws in Habiganj

Eight people were killed after a BRTC bus hit two CNG-run auto-rickshaws in Habiganj’s Nabiganj upazila on Monday evening.
The deceased are two-year-old Maria Akhter and her mother Samirun Begum (30), Halima Begum (26), Antar Miah (21), Liza Akhter (20) and Kitab Ali (32), said police.
Two others could not be identified yet.
Ershadul Haque Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Sherpur Highway Police Station, said a Sylhet-bound BRTC bus hit the auto-rickshaws coming from opposite direction at Fultali Bazar area around 5:00pm, leaving eight passengers of the two auto-rickshaws dead on the spot.
Twelve passengers of the bus were also injured as the vehicle plunged into a roadside ditch after hitting the auto-rickshaws, said the OC.
The injured were taken to different hospitals, our Brahmanbaria and Moulvibazar correspondents report, quoting the police official.
