8 kg gold worth Tk 4cr seized at HSIA: 2 held

Customs Officials and Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in two separate drives seized eight kilograms of gold worth around Tk four crore from the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Tuesday. They also arrested two persons in this connection. The arrested persons have been identified as Raja Baslima Binte Raja Malik, 53, a Malaysian national, and Mizanur Rahman, 45, customs sources said.
APBn Assistant Police Superintend Nur-e-Alam Siddique said they received secret information that some Malaysian nationals were coming to Bangladesh along with some gold.
When a flight of Malaysian Airlines landed on the Airport at about 11:30am, members of the APBn recognized some Malaysian nationals.
Later, the APP team in cooperation with immigration police took the Malaysian nationals, including Raja Baslima Binte Raja Malik, to the airport customs lounge and recovered six gold bars, each weighing one kg from a luggage of Raja Baslima after scanning it.
On the other hand, the customs official arrested a man with two kg gold from his possession. He was identified as Mizanur Rahman.
