8 fishers rescued, 15 pirates held in C’Bazar

Bangladesh Coast Guard members, in a drive, rescued eight injured fishers from Bakkhali River estuary near Najirartek in the district town and arrested fifteen pirates with a trawler on Thursday afternoon.
The rescued fishers are Shofiqul Alam, 45, son of late Karim Dhar, Nurul Qader, 45, son of late Oli Ahmed, Abdul Mannan, 25, son of late Abdus Sabur, Hasan, 18, son of late Bajal Ahmad, Md Satter, 19, son of Abdul Qader Manik, Md Belal, 24, son of Jafar Alam, Md Osman, 19, son of Giasuddin and Md Shohidul Islam Litu, 24, son of Mostaq Ahmed. All hail from Badarkhali union under Chakaria upazila.
The fishers informed they came under attack of the pirate gang eight kilometres away from Najirartek estuary at about 1pm on Thursday .
Contingent commander of Cox’s Bazar Coast Guard Saidur Rahman said on information that pirates swooped on a trawler on the Bay coast guard began their operation at about 3pm on Thursday.
Later, they rescued the fishers injured by the pirates and arrested fifteen pirates on the basis of their information, added the coast guard commander. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Cox’s Bazar Sadar police station Mahfuzur Rahman said the arrested pirates were taken under the police custody. A case was filed in this connection.
Two drug traders convicted
A mobile court of Chittagong district administration awarded three months Rigorous Imprisonment to two drug traders, for selling drugs at Bolirhat area under Bakalia thana in the city on Friday.
The convicts were identified as Mohammad Abul Kalam, 50 and Mohammad Yakub, 52.
Executive magistrate of Chittagong district administration Mohammad Asharaful Alam awarded the punishment to the drug traders for selling drugs.
