8 DB police suspended over looting money

Eight members of Detective Branch of police were suspended for their alleged involvement in looting money and valuables from some gamblers during their drive in the city’s Kafrul Area.
The punitive actions against the DB policemen were taken on Wednesday, said Masudur Rahman, Deputy commissioner of DMP (Media).
Besides, a three-member committee, headed by Additional Commissioner of DB Jamil Ahmed, has been formed by DMP to investigate the allegation of unlawful act committed by the DB members on Wednesday.
The Committee was asked to submit its report within three working days.
A police officer of DMP said 10 DB policemen, led by its Assistant Commissioner (AC) Ruhul Amin, reportedly raided a gambling spot near Kachukhet Bazar in Kafrul on Tuesday evening.
They allegedly introduced them as members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-4) and snatched money and mobile phone sets from the gamblers and also picked up some of them, the DMP officer said requesting anonymity.
Being informed, members of Military Police (MP) detained them when they were fleeing through Dhaka Cantonment area and handed them over to Kafrul thana police in the same night.
When the incident was brought to light on Wednesday, the DMP suspended eight members.
