Police, in special drives from Friday night to this morning, arrested 39 persons including two activists of Jamaat-e- Islami and four drug traders and recovered illegal drugs- 110 bottles of Phensidyl and 675 liters of locally made liquor-from 11 upazilas of the district.
Sources with the district police said, during the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested seven persons including the four drug traders, Khansama police three, Birganj police five, Kaharole police four, Biral police five, Hakimpur police two, Birampur police two, Chirirbandar police six, Phulbari police two, Parbatipur police one and Ghoraghat police two including the Jamaat activists.
BSS from Satkhira reports: Police, in special drives from Thursday night to this morning, arrested 29 persons on various charges from eight upazilas of the district.
Sources with the district police said they were picked up from different areas of the district.
During the drives, Satkhira Sadar police arrested nine persons, Kalaroa police four including one alleged drug trader with one bottles of locally made liquor and 35 pieces of Yaba tablets, Tala police four, Kaliganj police four, Shyamnagar police two, Assasuni police two, Patkelghata police two and Debhata police arrested two accused.
Meanwhile, Debhata Thana police in a drive recovered 50 pieces of Elephant teeth from a pond during the period.
Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.
The arrested were sent to jail.
UNV from Noakhali adds: Police arrested nine leaders and activists of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir at Fakirhat in Senbagh upazila on Friday night.
Tipped off, police conducted a drive there and arrested Tajul Islam Rakib, president of Senbagh South unit, and eight other activists along with jihadi books while they were holding a secret meeting, said Harun-or-Rashid, officer-in-charge of Senbagh Police Station.
