7500 men sued over BNP-police clash in Narayanganj, Manikganj

A murder case has been filed against 5,000 people including BNP leaders and activists in the case filed over the death of Shawon Ahmed, a man killed during the clash between BNP activists and police on Thursday.
Shawon’s elder brother Milan filed the case with Narayanganj Sadar Model Police around 2am on Thursday.
According to the case statement, the victim’s brother claimed that Shawon died due to serious injuries caused by the firing of bricks and firearms by BNP men.
According to police, BNP activists took out a procession around 10:45am, marking the founding anniversary of the party.
When the procession reached the No-2 rail gate area in Narayanganj around 11:30am, police stopped them, as they did not take prior permission from the police, leading to a chase and counter chase.
At one stage, the protesters attacked the cops, prompting the law enforcers to fire rubber bullets.
The whole Bangabandhu road from No-2 rail gate point turned into a battlefield during the clash that left 20 people injured.
Six people, including Shawon received bullet injuries during the clash.
Shawon sustained injuries in the chest and head. He was taken to Narayanganj General Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Shawon from Fatullah’s Boktaboli union, is the son of Saheb Ali. He worked as a welding engineer in an easy bike workshop factory near his house.
On Thursday morning, Shawon went to the No-2 rail gate point area to buy some equipment for his workshop.
Meanwhile, a case has been filed against 2,500 people in connection with BNP’s clash with police in Manikganj during the observance of the party’s 44th founding anniversary on Thursday.
On Thursday night, sub-inspector (SI) of sadar police station Md Abdul Liton filed the case as the plaintiff.
Thirty-three eminent activists were named amongst the 2,500 people in the case. The rest were unidentified leaders and workers of BNP.
Three of the accused were arrested from the spot and raids are on to arrest others, (OC) Abdur Rouf Sarker said Friday afternoon.
According to the case statement, on the day of the incident, the accused blocked Shaheed Taju Road in Shewta area and started chanting anti-government and anti-state slogans during a programme marking BNP’s 44th founding anniversary.
“Police clubed batons and tear gas canisters at BNP leaders and workers while going to the party’s foundation anniversary program on Thursday. Chhatra League and Jubo League leaders and activists beat BNP leaders and activists. On the contrary, false cases have been filed against BNP leaders and workers” said , BNP’s Manikganj District unit chief Afroza Khan Rita.
The protesters began pushing members of police after they were requested to unblock the road to keep traffic situation under control, eventually leading to a clash, read the statement.
Hundreds of BNP leaders and activists were injured during the time.
