47,286 get GPA-5: 73.93pc pass HSC exams

The results of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent (Madrassah and Technical) examinations were published on Wednesday.
In total, 988,172 candidates out of 1,336,629 (male 703,000 and female 633,629) students from 9,081 educational institutions passed the in examinations under 10 education boards across the country.
The number of average pass rate is 73.93 per cent this year while the last year’s record was only 68.55 pc.
As many as 71.85 per cent students have passed in the HSC examinations under the general education board while the rate is 88.56 pc for the Madrasa Education Board and 82.62 pc  
for Vocational Educational Board.
Just 47286 examinees achieved GPA-5 this year while the number of GPA-5 was 29,262 in 2018 and 25,562 in 2017.
Some 41,807 HSC students secured GPA-5 while 5,479 students only in Madrasa and Vocational examinations this year.
Earlier in the morning, Education Minister Dipu Moni officially handed over the HSC and equivalent results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on 10:00am. Later, the results have been published though a press briefing at the Education Ministry at 12:00 pm.
The HSC and its equivalent examinations of 2019 began on April 1 and concluded on May 11.
For the last three years, female students who sat for the HSC and equivalent examinations have outnumbered the male students – in terms of pass rate.
According to the results data , 76.44 pc female students passed in the exams, compared to 71.67 pc male students.
Last year, the success rate among girls was 69.72pc, 5.84pc higher than the boys’ 63.88pc. In 2017, the success rate for girls was 70.43pc, while it was 68.61pc for boys.
A total of 633,629 females took part in the exam and secured 76.44 per cent pass rate while 703,000 male took part in the exam and got 71.67 per cent under 10 education boards this year, according to a press release.
Besides, the number of colleges with 100 per cent pass rate in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations result increased by more than double this year compared to that of 2018.
The combined results of this year’s HSC and equivalent examinations under 10 education boards were published in the morning.
A total of 909 institutions achieved 100 per cent pass rate this year. The number was 400 in 2018 and 532 in 2017.
Meanwhile, the number of institutions in zero per cent pass rate came down this year.
A total of 41 colleges saw zero per cent pass rate in the HSC Exams-2019, whereas 55 educational institutions came up with zero pass rate in 2018, and 72 in 2017.
Even Cumilla Education Board outnumbered the seven other general education boards to count highest pass rate in this year’s HSC and equivalent examinations.
On an average 73.93 percent of examinees passed the examinations under 10 education boards.
A total of 13,36,629 students from 8,985 educational institutions appeared in this year’s examinations. Of them, 9,88,172 students have passed.
Under Cumilla Board, a total of 94,360 students appeared in the examination. Of them, 73,358 have become successful, making the pass rate 77.74 pc.
The pass rate of Rajshahi Board is 76.38 percent, while it is 71.09 percent in Dhaka, 75.65 percent in Jashore, 62.19 percent in Chattogram, 70.65 percent in Barisal, 67.05 in Sylhet and 71.78 in Dinajpur Board.
Under Dhaka Board, 18,187 examinees scored GPA 5, which is highest among all the boards.
