Chittagong Bureau :
At least 70 workers of a garment factory in Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) fell sick yesterday morning after drinking water supplied by the factory authorities.
Among the sick, 30 workers of Peninsula Garments Factory are undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA) Hospital in the EPZ area. The rest were released after first aid.
The authorities closed the factory for Saturday shortly after the incident.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of EPZ Police Station Abul Mansur said about 70 workers of Peninsula Garments Factory, owned by Major (Retd) Abdul Mannan, started feeling stomach pain and vomiting one after another after drinking water from the plant around 8.30am.
The authorities collected sample of the water for test and were asked to clean the water transmission line and reservoir.
