UNB, Dhaka :Law enforcers in their separate drives have arrested 70 activists of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir in Jhenidah, Faridpur and Sunamganj districts.In Faridpur, joint forces have arrested 35 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami in eight upazilas of the district.The arrests were made in separate drives from Thursday night to Friday noon, said police. Bhangaupazila Jamaat ameer and upazila vice-chairman Md Sarawar Hossain, Nagarkanda upazila ameer Maulana Sohrab Hossain, Madhukhali upazila ameer Liakat Biswas, and Karokdi union chairman and union BNP president Asaduzzaman were among the arrestees.Additional superintendent of police Md Quamuzzaman said police along with members of Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh conducted the drives in the district town, Sadar upazila, Madhukhali, Bhanga, Nagarkanda, Boalmari, Alfadanga, Sadarpur, Chabhadrasan upazilas and arrested the BNP-Jamaat men in cases filed in connection with violence.The arrestees were fugitive in several cases filed with different police stations of the district. In Sunamganj, police in an overnight drive on Thursday arrested 27 BNP and Shibir activists from different upazilas.The arrestees were warranted in several cases, said Police Super Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid.In Jhenidah, police arrested six Shibir activists from different student messes in Sheikhpara Bazar area of Shailakupa upazila early Friday over suspicion of subversive activities.MA Hashem Khan, officer-in-charge of Shailakupa Police Station, said police conducted the drive in the messes in the early hours and arrested them.Later, the arrestees were sent to jail, added the OC. Meanwhile, police in another drive arrested a Jamaat-e-Islami activist from Khamarmundia village in Kaliganj upazila in the morning. The arrestee, identified as Abul Hossain, was warranted in a sabotage case, said Saidur Rahman, duty officer of Kaliganj Police Station.
