Miscreants set seven vehicles ablaze at Banasree, Moghbazar, Nilkhet, Motijheel, Mohakhali, TT Para and
Victoria Park areas in the capital on Thursday, the third day of the countrywide transport blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Witnesses said a bus of ‘RAB RAB Paribahan’ was set afire at Banasree around 11:15 am. Local people extinguished the fire.
Another microbus was torched by some blockaders near Moghbazar Wireless Gate around 2 pm.
Earlier, miscreants torched a bus of ‘Dibanishi Paribahan’ near Motijheel Shapla Chattar around 10:05 am.
Besides, blockaders set fire to another bus at Nilkhet Crossing around 2:30 am.
Police and witnesses said, another bus of Victor Paribahan was set afire near Victoria Park under Kotwali Police Station around 5:17 pm. However, local people doused the flame before the arrival of a fire fighter unit on the spot.
Meanwhile, a bus was torched at Mohakhali at about 7:16 pm while an abandoned van near TT Para at about 6:55 pm.
Fire fighters from the nearest fire stations went to the spots and doused the flame. However, no casualty was reported.
Earlier, having failed to come out of her office to join her alliance’ s planned rally in the city, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday announced a countrywide blockade until they come up with a fresh decision.
