A gunfight between police and robbers at Tilabari in Barlekha upazila of Moulvibazar district left at least 14 including six cops injured early Tuesday.
Police also arrested seven robbers from the spot.
“Acting on a tip off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in
Tilabari area of Barlekha upazila, a team of police launched a drive there at around 3am,” Officer-in-Charge of Barlekha Police Station Md Moniruzzaman said.
He said as soon as the police raided the area, the robbers began firing targeting cops. “Suspecting the presence of police, robbers opened fire. In retaliation, police also fired triggering the “gunfight,” he said.
The injured cops are OC Md Moniruzzaman, OC (Investigation) Md. Akbor Hosain, ASI Amitav Das, Anwar Ullah, Bivash Sutrodhar, Constable Akbar Ali and Ataur Rahman.
The arrested robbers have been identified as Jitu Miah, Abdul Khalek, Kholilur Rahman, Jahangir Mia, Nur Miah, Kamal Hosain and Masud. They were admitted to Barlekha Health Complex. Police also recovered eight weapons with others from the spot.
