7 more patients die, 497 test positive in 24hrs: DGHS

Bangladesh on Monday reported death of seven more people from Covid-19 and detected presence coronavirus in 497 persons in the last 24 hours, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
“With the new cases, the death toll reached 152, while the total number of infected persons now stand at 5,913,” said Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of Directorate General of Health Services, in a press briefing in Dhaka.
She said that about 3,812 people were tested across the country since Sunday, which is 9.66 percent more than the previous day.
Besides, nine more people recovered taking the total recovery number to 131, the DGHS official said hinting that the recovery number is actually higher as they have the tally of only those who recovered through treatment at different hospitals.
Of the seven deceased, six were males. Five were from Dhaka, one from Sylhet and one from Rajshahi. Five of them were above 60 years, one between 40-51, and one was a child under 10.
In the last 24 hours, a total of 85 people were put in isolation around the country, Dr Sultana said.
No Covid patients in four districts: No Covid-19 patients have been detected in four districts so far, Dr. Sultana said.
She said that no Covid-19 patients have been detected in Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Satkhira and Natore districts so far.
Dr. Sultana said that the DGHS is working to collect information about the patients recovered from home quarantine. Some 1,01,722 people have been released from quarantine across the country so far.
Bangladesh announced its first Covid-19 case on March 8 and reported the first death on March 18.
But the number of tests conducted in the first month of the emergence of coronavirus infection was very low, around 50 a day on average.
Dr. Sultana said that 601 facilities have been kept ready for quarantine in 64 districts. Those facilities have capability to give quarantine services to 30,635 people at a time.
She said that about 6307 people are kept in institutional quarantine and 71,372 persons are in home quarantine now.
Dr. Sultana said, totally 1,79,401 people have been taken by both types of quarantines so far.
About 11722 persons have been released from those quarantines. The Additional Director described about corona testing laboratories across the country.
