Detectives arrested seven alleged members of a fake currency making gang and recovered counterfeit currency as well as materials including fake security threads used on banknotes worth Tk one crore from different areas in the capital on Wednesday.
The arrestees are – Md Shahabuddin, Md Mosharraf Hasan, Md Kabir Hossain alias Imon, Md Abdul Jalil, Moni Akhter alias Bilkis, Sultana Khatun and Selina Akhter. Sources at the Detective Branch (DB) headquarters said based on secret information, a special team of the DB carried out simultaneous drives in the city’s
Paltan and Kadamtali areas and arrested the gang members. During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees raveled that they have been making forged currencies targeting various festivals. The gang members were making fake currencies ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP Maruf Hossain Sarker.
