Seven litterateurs have been awarded with the Bangla Academy Shahitya Puroshkar for 2016 on Monday.
Director General of Bangla Academy Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan announced the names at a press briefing at the Bangla Academy Shaheed Munir Chowdhury auditorium in the city on Monday.
“They have been awarded for their outstanding
contributions to their respective field of literature,” he said.
The recipients are Abu Hasan Shariar (poetry), Shamsuzzaman (literature), Morshed Shafiul Hasan (essay and research), Dr Niaz Zaman (translation), Dr MA Hasan (literature on Liberation War), Noor Jahan Bose (autobiography/memories/travelling) and Rashed Rouf (juvenile literature).
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the awards to the recipients in the upcoming Book Fair on February 1, said Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan.
“Each winner of the Bangla Academy Shahitya Puroshkar would get Taka 1 lakh cash, a crest and a certificate,” he said.
A five-member committee formed earlier, selected the authors for their writings in the particular field of literature.
However, none has been awarded for three categories – research, drama and science, technology and environment due to lack of significant work under these genres.
