Staff Reporter :
Coastguards have recovered seven lakh pieces of contraband Yaba pills from a boat in Naf River in Cox’s Bazar.
The boat was also seized on charge of carrying the Yaba pills on Friday, reports our Cox’s Bazar correspondent quoting Lieutenant Sohel Rana, Station Commander of Teknaf Coastguard.
Getting information that a large consignment of yaba from Myanmar was entering Bangladesh’s territory, a Coastguard team took position in Naf River last night, the official said.
Around midnight, when a boat entered the
maritime boundary of Bangladesh and began coming towards the coast, the Coast Guard team signalled the boat to stop. In response, the crew fled leaving the boat sunken in the water, he also said.
Later, the coastguards conducted a search and recovered the Yaba pills from the boat, the Station Commander added.
A case was filed with Teknaf Police Station in this connection, he added.
