7 km dam to be built to prevent erosion in Boalkhali

The government has taken initiative to build a dam in seven-kilometer area in Boalkhali to prevent the erosion of the Karnafuli river. This work will start before next monsoon.
State Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim made the remarks after inspecting the erosion area of the Boalkhali section of the Karnafuli River on Saturday last.
He said if this dam is constructed, 15 km of the area will be protected from erosion. Not only this project, various projects are underway in 15 upazilas of Chattogram under the Water Development Board to prevent river canal erosion.The State Minister said that a mega project is being implemented at a cost of around Tk 1,600 crore to alleviate water logging in Chattogram city.Boalkhali MP Moslem Uddin Ahmed and officials of the Water Development Board were also present. Later, the State Minister attended a meeting of Boalkhali Upazila Awami League.
