UNB, Chittagong :
Seven people were killed as a rice-laden truck plunged into a roadside ditch on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Dakhshin Sonapahar Ghorpakia in Mirsarai upazila early Monday.
The deceased were identified as Kalam Miah, 45, Saidul, 40, Monir Uddin, 45, Shah Alam, 30,Rubel, 30, Tipu, 35, hailing from Atrai upazila in Naogaon district, and Azad, 25, from Adamdighi upazila Bogra district. They were coming to Chittagong riding on roof of the truck in search of works.
Sub-inspector Mohammad Farid Uddin of Jorarganj Police Station, said the Chittagong, bound truck carrying government 15-ton rice from Naogaon tumbled into the ditch as its driver lost control over the steering at around 5:30am, leaving the seven dead on the spot.
Police later recovered the bodies.
