Seven people, including a lecturer of a private medical college, were killed in a head-on collision between two buses in Dakshin Surma of Sylhet. More than 50 people were injured in the incident.
The tragic accident took place in the Rashidpur area of Dhaka-Sylhet Highway around 6:00 am on Friday.
According to the locals, a London Express bus from Dhaka collided with a bus of Dhaka-bound Ena Transport leaving from Sylhet. Four people were killed on the spot. The injured have been shifted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Osmani Medical College Hospital sources said one of the deceased in the incident was a doctor – working as a lecturer in Sylhet Women’s Medical College.
“The driver, supervisor and staff of the Ena bus were killed in the collision. All of them are hailing from Sherpur district,” said Zayed Ahmed, a staff of Ena Transport.
Dakshin Surma Police Station OC Mohammad Monirul Islam said four bodies were recovered from the spot. Besides, three more died after taking Osmani Medical. 20 people have been admitted in critical condition.
