7 killed, 30 hurt in road crashes

Seven persons were killed and 30 others injured in separate road crashes in Chittagong, Narayanganj and Jessore districts on Friday and Saturday.
In Chittagong, two persons were killed when a private car overturned at Sonapahar of Mirsarai Upazila on Saturday morning. Farid Uddin, in-charge of Jorarganj Police camp, said that the accident took place when a Dhaka-bound private car from Chittagong skidded-off the road, as its driver lost control over the steering in the morning. As a result, two persons died on the spot. The bodies of the deceased identified as Mohammad Zahir, 34, and Abdul Aziz, 35, were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
In Narayanganj, five persons were killed and 30 others injured in road accidents at Sonargaon and Fatullah of the city on Friday.
Three of them were killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a battery-run easy-bike at Masdair under Fatullah Police Station of the city at night. The deceased could not be identified immediately. Officer-in-charge of Fatullah Police Station Abdul Malek said the accident took place around 12am when the truck collided with the auto-rickshaw, leaving three auto-rickshaw passengers dead on the spot and its 10 others injured. The injured were taken to Sadar Hospital. At Sonargaon Upazila, two people died on the spot and 20 others were injured as a bus carrying a bridal party plunged into a roadside ditch at Nayapur around 10pm.
Police and witnesses said the accident took place when the Rupganj-bound bus from Gazaria of Munshiganj carrying 25-30 bridal party members fell into the ditch after it collided with a pick-up on Madanpur-Joydebpur road. The injured were taken to different hospitals, including Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
In Jessore, Assistant Director of Health and former caretaker of Jessore Sadar Hospital Dr. Hasan al Mamoon was killed in a road accident in front of BCMC College in the town on Saturday morning.
He was seriously injured when an Easy-bike struck him from behind at the time of his crossing the road in front of the College. He was taken to Jessore Hospital for treatment. An attempt was taken to bring him to Dhaka by Helicopter for better treatment. He succumbed to his injuries when he was brought to Jessore Airport to fly to Dhaka by helicopter.
