7 JMB men put on fresh remand

A court of Dhaka yesterday (Monday) placed seven suspected members of the banned Islamist outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) on a seven-day fresh remand each in two cases. Acting Ameer Abdullah Al Tasnim is one of them.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mizanur Rahman passed the order after SI Mozammel Hossain of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police
produced the suspects in his court on completion of their four-day remand, with 20 days’ remand prayer in the two cases. The court also rejected the bail pleas of the accused.
Other accused people placed on remand are Nayeem Ali, 28, Sikander Ali, 25, Mahmud Ibn Bashar, 23, Masum Billah, 26, Fuhad Hasan, 18, and Ali Ahmed, 24.
Earlier on September 19, another Dhaka court placed the seven accused, JMB members on a four-day remand each in the two cases.
Plain-clothes police in a drive arrested the militants from the city’s Turag area on September 18. During the drive, the Detective Branch (DB) members also seized 10 kg gel-mixed chemical and objectionable books.
The accused allegedly planned to carry out attacks on VVIPs, VIPs and KPIs to draw the attention of middle east-based militant group Islamic State, said DB source.
Police filed two cases- one under the Explosive Substances Act and the other under the Anti-Terrorism Act-against the seven JMB men with Turag Police Station on September 19.
