7 ‘JMB men’ held in C’nawabganj drives

Police arrested seven suspected members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Shibganj, Nachole and Sadar upazilas during a two-day anti-militancy drives on Wednesday and Thursday.
Police super of the district TM Mojahidul Islam came up with the information at a press conference at his office on Friday afternoon.
Tipped off, police conducted a drive at Guthil village in Nachole upazila on Wednesday morning and arrested suspected JMB leaders Harun-or-Rashid, Kamal Uddin, Nasim Reza and M Feroz.
They also recovered 4.5 kg gunpowder and 22 Jihadi books from their possession, the SP said.
Based on information gleaned from the arrestees, police conducted two more drives at Kaithapara and Raghabpur villages in Shibganj upazila on Thursday morning and arrested Babu, son of Islam Ali, and Azizur Rahman from the two villages respectively.
The law enforcers recovered 52.5 kg power gel, which is used to make explosives, from the house of Babu, said the SP, adding they arrested another JMB man, Hakim, from Debinagar Fata Para in Sadar upazila on Thursday night.
All of the arrestees are the mid-level activists of the banned militant outfit. Mojahidul said police found information about the Matikata ‘militant den’ in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi district after interrogating JMB men Harun, Kamal, Nasim and Feroz.
Based on their information, Chainawabganj police cordoned off the militant hideout around 3am on Thursday and later handed the charge of the operation over to the Rajshahi police.
Five ‘militants’ and a firefighter were killed during the drive while police rescued two children-Jubayer and Apiya-from the house.
