At least seven people including three women received burn injuries at Kalurghat area in the city early yesterday.
The fire originated from a bottle of spirit, commonly used for polishing furniture, when it came in contact with fire and soon engulfed the ground floor of the six-storey building, fire service and locals sources said.
The injured are: Rasheda Begum, 36, Bazlu Mia, 41, Rayhan Uddin, 11, Tahera Begum,20, Abdul Mazid,19, all of them hail from Hobigonj District, Salma Begum, 22, and Mehedi, 25, both hail from Borguna district.
The injured persons used to do wooden furniture polishing work in their residence.
Rupon Kanti Biswas of Agrabad Fire Service control room confirmed the incident and cause of fire. He said five firefighting units rushed to the spot and put out the flame at around 2 am. The injured were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital burn unit, he added.
