Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members arrested two people reportedly along with 38,000 Yaba tablets in a covered van from Shaheednagar of the city on Sunday.
The arrestees were identified as Md Abu Taher, 40, son of Hasu Miah of Ramu in Cox’s Bazar, and Md Alam, 24, son of Abdul Kashem of Ukhia in the district.
Senior Assistant Director (Media) of Rab-7 Mimtanur Rahman said acting on a tip-off, an elite force tam set up a checkpost in Bayazid Bostami area and started searching vehicles.
At one point, law enforcers challenged a covered van and recovered the Yaba pills after searching it. Later, they arrested the duo, he said.

The detainees were identified as Md Ahsan Habib, 19, Md Sohel, 20 and Md Manik, 25, residents of different areas of the district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive near Goni Bakery in college road area and arrested them while they were taking preparation for snatching.
The team also recovered three knives from their possessions, said a Rab press release.
Later, the arrestees were handed over to Chock Bazar Police Station.
A Correspondent reports: Police arrested a person along with counterfeit currency notes from Railway Station Road area under Katwali Thana on Saturday night. The arrestee was identified as M Faruk, 36, hailed from Patiya Upazila.
M Mohosin, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station confirmed the news to the journalists on Sunday.
He said acting on a tip off, a team of Katwali Police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Faruk along with 31,000 counterfeit currency notes.
He was trying to flee away while police arrested him, OC added.
Another reports adds: RAB arrested a man with 20,710 yaba tablets in Chittagong city’s Colonel Hat area on Sunday.
The arrestee is Ashraf, 36, son of late Ayin Uddin Sheikh from Gaibandha.
Mimtanur Rahman, assistant director of Rab-7 media wing, said a team of Rab intercepted a car in front of Sotota Furniture and detained Ashraf.
The pills were found inside the car, added Mimtanur.
