At least seven persons have become victims of abductions from different parts of the country during the last couple of days. Cases have been recorded with respective police stations in connections with the incidents.
The increase incidents of abduction have become a matter of concern for the people in general and members of civil society and human rights bodies of the country in particular.
In some cases members of law enforcing agencies could rescue a few abducted persons alive but in many cases they remained either traceless or their bodies recovered.
One businessman was abducted from Bishwanath, Sylhet on Tuesday night. Faizul Huq Khan, a businessman of village Sreedharpur,Bishawanath, remains missing since Tuesday. He is owner of a furniture shop. Faizul Huq Khan told his son Jainal Islam Khan in the evening on the day over cell phone that he could be freed on payment of a ransom of Tk. three lakh to the kidnappers. Fazle Rabbi, SI of Bishawanath told the media that efforts were on for his rescue.
Rezwanul Huq, a local BNP leader of Sadar Union of Rangpur was also abducted on Tuesday night while a truck driver remains missing from Baralekha, Moulvibazar since Tuesday. A case was filed with Rangpur Sadar Kotwali thana in this connection by his wife Rina Begum. Rina Begum told the media that her husband had gone to Rangpur town on Tuesday evening since then he remains missing.
Abdul Khaleque (62), a retired Railway official remain missing from Faridganj , Comilla since Wednesday. He had gone to Rupsha Bazar on family business on Wednesday afternoon. He was allegedly picked up by some people in an auto-rickshaw. He had dispute with a local businessman . A case was filed with Faridganj police in this connection.
Sohel Ahmed Rony, a JCD leader of Chowgachha, Jessore was abducted on Wednesday evening. Local BNP leader Alauddin has informed the incident of his son’s abduction to Chowgacha thana on Thursday morning. Rony was working with a private company of Chowgachha. There is no allegation with local police against him, police said.
Abdul Bari, a businessman of Shakhipur, Tangail remains missing for the last couple of days. He was a treasurer candidate of Shakhipur Banik Samity election. Majeda Akhter, wife of Bari has filed a case with Shakhipur thana in this connection. The police have sent message to different places for his rescue.
Nurul Islam (38), a truck driver of Baralekha thana remains missing since his abduction. Baralekha thana Officer in Charge told the media that they were trying to rescue him.
Sunamganj BNP leader Mujibur Rahman and his driver Sohel remain missing since Sunday last. A case was filed with Sunamganj thana on Tuesday. The police has so far failed make any progress in tracing the whereabouts of Mujibur since his abduction. He is known as a wealthy man and based in UK.
Sunamganj district unit BNP on Thursday announced a half day hartal in Sunamganj for Sunday for safe return of Mujibur Rahman and his driver Sohel.
