Celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr: 7, 7 03 tonnes of VGF rice for distressed families in dists

Over 1.54 lakh poor and distressed families were brought under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme here to mark the end of Ramzanj and celebration of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr festival.
Under the programme, a total of 2,413 tonnes of rice were distributed among the beneficiary families in all 72 Union Parishads under nine upazilas and 14 pourasabhas (municipalities) in the district.
Each of the card-holder got 15-kg of rice this time as per the list prepared earlier under the existing social safety net programme.
The government through the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief allocated requisite quantity of rice in the district.
As per direction and supervision of the district administration, the concerned upazila administrations with the assistances of local public representatives and union level committees distributed the rice among the listed VGF Card holder families.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) Aminul Hoque told BSS that distribution of VGF rice completed within the stipulated time so that the beneficiary poor and distressed families could celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr in festive mood.
Respective union Parishads prepared the list of the distressed people in their areas and distributed rice with approval of the concerned UNOs, Aminul added.
Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader said instructions were given to the Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) along with project implementation officers (PIOs) for distribution of the rice among the beneficiaries smoothly.
“We were very much conscious about the quantity and quality of rice scheduled for distribution,” he added.
BSS from Gaibandha says: The government has allocated 2,490 tonnes of rice for the distressed and ultra-poor people of the district on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme.
District relief and rehabilitation office source said the rice would be distributed to a total of 1, 65, 970 VGF card holders at all the seven upazilas, including four pourashavas, in the district before Eid-ul-Fitr. Of the total, 27,209 cards are allocated for Fulchhari upazila, 28,899 for Sundarganj upazila, 15,160 for Shaghata upazila, 28,252 for Gobindaganj upazila, 15,762 for Sadullapur upazila, 23,752 for Sadar upazila and 13, 073 for Palashbari upazila of the district.
Apart from it, 4,621 cards are allocated for Gaibandha Pourashava and
Gobindaganj Pourashava each, 3,081cards for Sundarganj Pourashava, and 1,540 cards for Palashbari upazila of the district, sources said.
Each of the beneficiaries would get 15 KGs of rice so that they could celebrate the forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals for the Muslims, without food crisis, said assistant commissioner and acting district relief and rehabilitation officer M. Saheedul Islam.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin told BSS that said instructions were
given to the upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) along with project implementation officers (PIOs) to distribute the rice to the beneficiaries
smoothly within very short time.
Sadar UNO Uttam Kumar Roy and PIO Anisur Rahman said as per the directives
of the DC necessary measures were taken to distribute the VGF rice to the beneficiaries of the upazila before Eid festival without any criticism.
BSS from Naogaon adds: A total of 1,86,959 poor and distressed families will get 2804.385 metric tonnes of rice under special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) Programme to celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.
Officials of the district Relief and Rehabilitation said the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated the rice for distribution to the poor and distressed families in all 11 upazilas in the district.
The upazila administrations with assistance of local public representatives and union level committees are preparing to distribute the rice to listed VGF card holder families, said District Relief and Rehabilitation officer Abdul Mannan.

Each of the selected beneficiary families will get 15 kg VGF rice in all
99 unions and three pourasabhas under 11 upazilas in the district.
The distribution process will be completed before the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.
