68 arrested on various charges in Rangpur

Police arrested 68 people, including 22 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and Islami Chhatra Shibir and five activists of BNP and its front organisations here on Friday night.
Police said the arrested leaders and activists of Jamaat, Shibir and BNP are allegedly involved with recent subversive activities like hurling petrol bombs, killing of innocent people, blasting cocktail bombs and other terrorist activities in recent times.
The arrested also include absconding Jamaat leader Faruk Hossain accused of chopping police constable Mozahar Ali to death with sharp weapons in Pirgachha upazila on February 28 in 2013 following the verdict against Delwar Hossain Sayedee .
Besides, police arrested more 41 people, including absconding accused persons of different cases, warrantees, thieves, muggers, drug traders, anti-social elements and other suspicious people from all eight upazilas in the district.
After primary interrogation, the arrested were produced today before different Rangpur courts from where they were sent to the jail hajat, the sources said.
