BSS, Rangpur :
Police arrested 67 people, including 11 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and Islami Chhatra Shibir, from different places in the district during the past 24 hours ending yesterday morning, police sources said.
The arrested Jamaat-Shibir activists had been absconding and criminal cases are pending against them for their alleged involvements with attacking police, conducting subversive and terrorist activities, vandalism and arson in recent times.
The Jamaat-Shibir activists were arrested by Mithapukur Thana police and they are Mominul, 35, Shafikul, 40, Mostafa, 40, Rabiul, 30, Emdadul, 45, Ejajul, 25, Mehedi, 25, Rabbi, 26, Mohsin, 32, Ruhul, 27, and Sabuz, 25.
Besides, police arrested 56 more persons, including drug traders and traffickers, warrantees, extortionist, terrorists, dacoits, muggers, accused person in separate murder cases and other anti-social elements from allover the district.
After primary interrogation, the arrested persons were produced before the concerned Rangpur courts from where they were sent to the jail hajat, the sources added.
