65 to get UGC’s Prime Minister Gold Medal awards

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to award 165 meritorious students from public and private universities with the Prime Minister Gold Medal-2017 in recognition of their academic achievements. The decision was taken at a Steering Committee meeting held at the UGC on last Tuesday with its Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan in the chair, said a press release. The UGC Chairman said the gold medals will be awarded to 165 students — 163 from public and two from private universities-for securing the highest marks/CGPA in their respective faculties.
He also said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to hand over the gold medals among the recipients at a ceremony which will be held at a convenient time of the Prime Minister.
UGC Members Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Prof Dr Md Akhtar Hossain and Prof Dr M Shah Nowaz Ali, and Secretary Dr Md Khaled were, among others, present at the meeting.
The Prime Minister Gold Medal was introduced in 2005 as an effort to encourage the talented students of the universities in the country.
