64kg gold seized at HSIA

Customs officials recovered 640 gold bars weighing about 64kg worth around Tk 32 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The gold bars were kept hidden in a wooden box and was recovered from the import cargo village on Saturday night.
The big consignment of gold bars, so far in the current year, came to the airport through a flight from Singapore on Friday, said Sulaiman Saif, Assistant Commissioner of the preventive team of Dhaka Customs House. National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan came up with the information in a press conference at the HSIA.
He said the abandoned gold consignment was recovered from the Import Cargo Village area of the airport at around 10:15 pm. In a special technique, the gold bars were kept hidden inside the glass frames.
On information, Custom officials recovered 640 pieces of gold bars weighing 100 gm each, which were brought by flight BG-085 arrived in Dhaka from Singapore, he added.
Solaiman Saif, Assistant Commissioner of the preventive team of Dhaka Customs House, said, “Acting on a tip-off, we have been able to seize the consignment of gold imported through false declaration.”
“We are now investigating the matter and scrutinising the documents who are involved in the incident,” he added.
However, no one was detained yet in this connection.
